Katarina Witt began ice skating when she was five. Then, her talent became apparent and she was invited to Karl-Marx-Stadt's school for special needs. They met Jutta Muller here. Witt was able to make her debut year in 1982 after she placed second at the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Since that time the elegance and grace of her skating attracted the attention of everyone. Her dominance began in this particular sport. Olympic triumph Katarina (now Witt) was awarded the Figure Skating Gold Medal at Sarajevo in the Sarajevo Winter Games. Witt won an even more close competition the following year. Her free skate was an unbeatable loss. However, the gold medal was awarded to her because of her performances at both mandatory figures (short programme) and mandatory figures. Witt is the only repeated winner in women's figure skating since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt had amazing success in her acting career however, she returned to figure skating in order to compete during her participation in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. Although she didn't get a single medal she enchanted fans despite finishing seventh. Witt's admission into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
